THAT IS FUCKING TERRIFYING WHY DO PEOPLE FIND THAT BEAUTIFUL?! THERE’S A BIG FUCKING GAPING HOLE IN THE MOTHERFUCKIN OCEAN AND WATER IS DISAPPEARING INTO IT WHERE DOES IT GO?!

*Under The Sea starts playing*

Anyone know where this is?

This is off the Island of Mauritius in the Indian Ocean! And actually it’s not really a waterfall, it’s the underwater sediment/minerals and sand that is being swept off the continental shelf into the epipelagic waters  by some pretty strong currents, creating a sort of illusion that the water itself is rushing over into a waterfall. It’s a pretty cool illusion though!
There aren’t ever such things as underwater waterfalls or rivers that are just made out of water since water is technically all the same density (besides fresh and saltwater) and the only thing that separates it would be the salinity and/or the thermocline!
But when water is actually mixed with something denser, such as hydrogen sulfide or perhaps salt water crashing with fresh water, it can actually form underwater rivers such as the one in Mexico!

These are some of them, most were golden retrivers and labradors, but also included german shepherds and other breeds. Sadly most are dead now, while many people forget them and don’t spare them a thought.

As people lay dying, trapped and hurt, a team of nearly 100 loyal and courageous search dogs put their lives on the line to help humans. Without them, many more would not have survived, yet few people consider them.

In such a chaotic, terrifying, hot, acrid-smelling, smokey and loud environment, countless human lives depended on their ability to focus, listen, respond to their handlers, and work tirelessly. Stepping over cracked glass, hot tarmac, through flames and thick smoke, being winched over deep ravines, they battled on to seek out survivors and bring them aid.

They worked around the clock, day and night, searching, sniffing, over and over. Not only did they search, but they comforted - many eyewitnesses speak of how the dogs would stop and sit by newly-recovered victims, giving them a sense of hope and relief, before moving on to look for the next. As the situation became desperate, and the rescue workers and fire teams became utterly distraught at the amount of people who were recovered dead, these dogs brought them comfort, sitting with them on breaks, letting them grieve.

Many of these dogs are old, and have passed away. Let us remember the courage and loyalty they showed at such a horrendous event. They didn’t have a choice, but nonetheless they did what was asked of them and helped save countless lives. Don’t let their bravery be forgotten today either, or their determination to be a ‘good dog’ despite the scary and dangerous environment around them.

Today is a very emotional day for me. Most people my age won’t completely understand it. I was only in second grade 13 years ago. I still remember everything that happened like it was yesterday. I didn’t fully understand then but I quickly figured out what had happened. Not knowing why my teacher started crying in class, only to find out that her husband was supposed to be on the plane that hit the second tower. Thankfully he missed his flight and was on another. I will never forget the faces I saw that day. Now that I’m in the EMS field I have even more of a connection to what happened. It truly is a brotherhood of men and women working together. While most people run away from danger, we are the ones that run to it. We will never forget those that gave the ultimate sacrifice that fateful day. If you know anyone that is an EMT, paramedic, firefighter, police officer, or military member, please tell them thank you for everything they do. It truly means the world to hear those two simple words

This flag contains the names of 343 men. 343 firefighters who responded to their last alarm. 343 fathers, brothers, sons, lovers, friends, who never got to say “I love you” one last time. 343 firefighters who sacraficed their lives while trying to save others on 9/11.
RIP Brothers - You may be gone, but you will never be forgotten. #fdny #911 #lodd #september11 #343

The sky was falling and streaked with blood I heard you calling me, then you disappeared into the dust Up the stairs, into the fire Up the stairs, into the fire I need your kiss, but love and duty called you someplace higher Somewhere up the stairs, into the fire May your strength give us strength May your faith give us faith May your hope give us hope May your love give us love

The sky was falling and streaked with blood
I heard you calling me, then you disappeared into the dust
Up the stairs, into the fire
Up the stairs, into the fire
I need your kiss, but love and duty called you someplace higher
Somewhere up the stairs, into the fire

May your strength give us strength
May your faith give us faith
May your hope give us hope
May your love give us love
